![]() The book starts out with the tail of being arrested by the Spanish police on a lobbying trip to Madrid. Life did not become easier when Putin buddy Donalt Trump became president. Disdain for Browder went all the way up to Putin in Russia. Though he was out of Russia, this still put Browder in considerable danger. Freezing order tells how Browder continued to crusade against those responsible as well as the corrupt Russian government over the entire world, working to get magnitsky acts passed everywhere from EU countries to Japan. Red Notice left off with Browder successfully lobbying the US congress to enact sanctions against those involved with Magnitsky's death. The killing of Magnitsky changed the trajectory of Browder's life. The lawyer he had hired to follow up on this fraud, Sergey Magnitsky, ended up in prison where he was mishandled and eventually killed. But before he completly exited the country, he managed to uncover a massive tax fraud related to his company. Browder became a persona-non-grata in Russia and he was forced to flee. This turns out to have been a dangerous strategy in a country where corruption seems to have become not just tolerated, but the unifying theory of governing. In particular he focused on companies that were being stolen from by plutocrats and currupt officials, and then publicly shamed the companies and authorities to do something about it. Browder was a succesful fund manager specializing in investing in poorly run Russian companies. This book begins where Browder's previous book, Red Notice left off. The story of how Ada and Ruby get the farm up and running was surprisingly engrossing and arguably the more enjoyable of the two story lines.įreezing Order By Bill Browder August 2022 ![]() ![]() Luckily, she obtains the help of Ruby, who's practical knowledge of surviving off the land was gained through her hard-knock upbringing in the absence of parents. Ada, a cultured but practically limited city girl, is left alone on a farm after the unexpected death of her father. Indeed, the story of the wandering Inman could easily have been taken from a Macarthy novel.īut interspersed with the story of Inman, is the story of Ada. I've read an interview of Frazier, where he acknowledges the influence of Cormac Macarthy in his writing. Along the way meeting encountering people who help him, almost as a reflex, but also more dangerous elements. A confederate deserter, Inman, makes his way through the south towards his home town and love interest, Ada. Originally it came out in 1998 and became a bestseller, mainly through word-of-mouth.
